Stoned Arched Cellars & Homestead Tour – April 12

The tour starts at 1 pm, departing from the Wabaunsee County Museum in Alma.

Step back in time and explore the early settlement of the Flint Hills on the Stoned Arched Cellars & Homestead Tour. This guided tour will take guests to several historic homestead sites, including taking a peek inside some homes. Participants will learn how early settlers built their homes, limestone cellars, and outbuildings using the natural resources of Wabaunsee County. Along the way, hear stories of the families who shaped the landscape and see firsthand the craftsmanship and resilience that defined life on the prairie. This tour offers a rare opportunity to visit historic homestead sites that help tell the story of settlement in the Flint Hills.

Stoned Arched Cellars & Pasture Hike & Tour – April 26

The tour starts at 1 pm, departing from the Wabaunsee County Museum in Alma.

Lace up your boots and step into the past on the Stoned Arched Cellars & Pasture Hike and Tour. This guided hike will take participants across beautiful Flint Hills pastureland to explore historic limestone cellars and early homestead remnants tucked into the landscape. Along the way, you’ll learn how early settlers used locally quarried limestone to build durable storage cellars and structures that helped sustain life on the prairie. As you hike through the tallgrass, guides will share stories of the families who once lived here and the history that still quietly remains in the hills. This tour offers a unique opportunity to experience both the history and natural beauty of the Flint Hills while discovering the hidden traces of early settlement. 🌾
