From the Bat Nelson Collection, this interior view of the Johnson Jewelry Store in Alta Vista is dated 1910. On the reverse in Nelson’s handwriting is “Chris Johnson Jewelry Store, located south of Buchman’s Farm Supply. Started in 1888 as a cabinet maker and carpenter, Chris took up the jewelry trade later and continued until his death in 1914. He was born Germany in 1854, came to the U.S. in 1876, and married Emilie Wolgast on June 28, 1889.
