The Keene School, District 56, located in the town of Keene, was built in 1886 and closed in the late 1960s with statewide consolidation. In this view, circa 1890, a large group of students are photographed in front of the two-room school.
I attended this school from 1937 to 1945. There were two outhouses and a horse barn. Everything is gone now except the horse barn. Wondering why they chose to tear down the schoolhouse???? Across the road was a grocery store and gas station and a few feet south was a switchboard. I went by there 3-4 years ago and there is a sign saying the road going east and west was historical….granny doesn’t remember why.
